Our goal is to investigate creating covalently-linked fluorescent dye molecules using Rhodamine B, Rhodamine 6G, and fluorescein with the intention of creating fluorophores with varying degrees of brightness. Using different fluorescent molecules and different linking molecules, we hope to alter the photo physics of the molecule in an attempt to change the overall brightness of each molecule. We will report the successful synthesis of fluorescent dimers that employ various linkers. The optical properties of these different dimers will be quantified using a fluorimeter and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), which measures the temporal fluorescence fluctuations caused by single fluorescent molecules moving through an excitation volume. The outlook for using these different dimers as calibration standards in future experiments will be presented. <br/>
