This study focused on utilizing Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy (DOSY) to examine the effect of pH and type of counterion on micelle formation of the amino acid based surfactant undecylenyl L-leucine (und-Leu). The counterions examined included 1,2-ethylenediamine, 1,3-propanediamine, 1,4-diaminobutane, 1,5-diaminopentane, and 1,6-diaminohexane at pHs ranging from 7 to 11. The data from the DOSY experiments were utilized to determine the effect of pH and type of counterion on the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles and to examine fraction bound of the surfactants and the counterions to the micelles at the various pHs.
