A series of Ru(II) complexes supported by tridentate ligands with the formula LnRu(P(OCH2)3CEt) (NCMe)Ph {Ln = CH3OTMM [(4,4',4"-ethoxyethanetriyl)tris(1-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole)], Tz (tris(1,2,4-triazolyl)borate), or TpBr3 (perbromotrispyrazolylborate)} were synthesized and studied as catalysts for the addition of aromatic C-H bonds across the C=C bonds of olefins. A key focus is the development of structure /activity relationships via modulation of the sterics and donor ability of the tridentate ligands Ln. The development of this series of catalysts and preliminary mechanistic findings will be presented.
