Our group has had previous success in developing carbon sulfur bond formation reactions using pincer-supported rhodium catalysts. We have since shifted focus to develop a cobalt system suitable for cross coupling reactions. Herein, a series of well-defined cobalt complexes supported by tridentate, meridionally binding pincer ligands will be discussed. Attempts to produce a viable cobalt (I/III) cross coupling catalyst, and the prospect of carbon-heteroatom bond formation as well as carbon-carbon coupling will be discussed. <br/>
