Gels are compounds that exist in between the solid phase and the solution phase.  The aggregation of gelator molecules via weak intermolecular interactions form a semiorganized network of microscopic fibers that are able to trap solvent molecules. A series of hydrazide containing compounds synthesized in our lab form gels with the introduction of a solution containing divalent metal salts.  The intermolecular interactions that lead to gel formation were investigated in solution via spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV, and NMR), while the structure of the dried gels was investigated via scanning electron microscopy and powder X-ray diffraction.  Details of these investigations will be presented.<br/>
