The electron deficient nature of tri-coordinate boron center has led to several important applications such as Lewis acid catalysis, anion sensing, and OLED. Besides, the isolation and structural characterization of radical species consisting of tri-coordinate boron center continuously receive considerable attention for not only the fundamental challenges associated with p-block radicals, but also the potential application of these radicals in electronic devices and radical polymerization. Our group has demonstrated that the incorporation of boryl group to phenoxyl radical affords a robust neutral organic free radical.[1] To investigate the boron-mediated electron communication between two radical centers we are now prepared a series of related boron-linked bis-phenol mono- and di-radical derivatives. Characterization and reaction of these radical species will be presented. Besides, we have also extended the chemistry of carbene-stabilized boron radical to the silylene-coordinated analogue and realized a neutral radical consisting of a Si-B partial p-bond.[2] Finally, boryl radical involved 1,2-migration was identified during deprotonation of N-boryl-imidazolium cation. Mechanistic studies of the migration process will also be discussed.[3]
