Metallic nanoparticles (MNP) have received extensive attention during the past decades due to their high potential applications such as catalysis, biomedical and water remediation. There is a need for a simple, reliable and low cost method for producing homogeneous stable metal nanoparticles and we recently developed one that enables the production of ultrastable MNPs under air [1]. Their unusual stability in air allows applications previously difficult to implement with metal nanoparticles produced using conventional methods due to their pyrophoric properties.<br/>This paper presents the study of ultrastable metal nanoparticles (Ag, Co and Ag_Co nanocomposites) aimed to be used for water purification and biomedical applications. HRTEM study revealed highly crystalline monodisperse nanoparticles (Figure 1). A new method using these nanomaterials has been tested for water purification [2] and has demonstrated an ability to efficiently remove lead ions, which makes them promising candidates for heavy metal ions removal from polluted water. The extraction of radioactive elements has been also successfully tested. In addition, the biocidal properties of these MNPs were studied against bacteria and fungi [3] and to validate a potential use of these MNPs, their toxicity was also studied using Human Embryonic Kidney Cells (HEK 293) and cancer cells. The properties of these nanoparticles will be discussed in terms of possible direct applications.<br/><br/>
