The STEM Academy is a two-week summer program to prepare students to be successful in their STEM courses at The University of Tennessee at Martin. The program is being developed to assist in increasing student preparedness in challenging STEM courses and in turn increase retention rates of STEM majors. Currently students receiving the S-STEM Scholarship at UTM are required to participate in the academy each summer. The program is designed to meet the needs of the scholars and covers courses in chemistry, biology, geosciences, mathematics, computer science and engineering. The course content is tailored to the needs of the scholars to review material that they are weak in and to introduce material they will see in the upcoming semester to ideally give them a head start. This presentation will focus on the design and implementation of the program, as well as the successes and failures of the academy to date.
