This lecture will focus our use of alkynes as coupling partners in atom economical and stereoselective transformations. We will include a discussion on the the hydroacylation of alkynes to generate gamma-delta unsaturated isomers. A decarboxylative approach to coupling alkynes and beta-keto acids will be presented, along with our efforts to acheive an asymmetric variant. Finally, we will disclose how these studies ultimately led to the development of a stereodivergent cross-coupling between aldehydes and alkynes to generate alpha-allylated carbonyl motifs.
