Inspired by the desire to increase critical medicine access, we have realized the synthesis of a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients. By merged new reaction methods and chemical engineering principles both novel chemistry and new efficient routes into critical medicines have been realized. The seminar will cover a series of reaction systems recently developed and the lessons learned from each of these examples. The topical areas that will be presented include continuous chemistry within micro/meso-reactors, multi-step process design and implementation and new reaction development. In particular, we will highlight an efficient route into substituted pyridines including a key precursor to the anti-viral medicine nevirapine.
