A large focus recently in chemical manufacturing processes has been on developing greener and more efficient methods for chemical synthesis.  While the standard method for industrial scale production has remained unchanged for decades in large batch reactors, these systems continue to pose safety concerns for many materials as well as limit the ability to provide flexible chemical production methods.  One potential system for improving on these aspects utilizes microreactors for continuous flow synthesis.  KCNSC has produced multiple production materials using a simple microreactor setup. Most recently, a method for manufacturing diphenol-4,4’-methylenebis (phenylcarbamate), commonly known as Hylene MP, was quickly developed on-site to provide on-demand synthesis for upcoming customer needs.  The current batch process requires multiple hours of on-site monitoring and hands on work by technicians.  Moreover, the quantities produced in a single batch reaction will make enough material for years, causing issues with long-term storage of the product.  The process and rapid optimization of the material when produced in flow will be discussed as well as efforts to improve the synthesis for a chemical manufacturing environment rather than only laboratory production.
