The Actinomyces genus Streptomyces venezuelae has proven to be a fertile source of natural products. Numerous polyketide-derived scaffolds have been discovered from S. venezuelae. Recently, a new linear polyketide product was isolated from this soil bacterium. For the total synthesis of the compound, a route was elected that would allow modular access to various stereoisomers and analogs. A convergent synthesis will be employed to provide sufficient material for biological testing and confirmation of the proposed structure. A summary of our efforts towards this newly-isolated natural product will be presented.
