Infrared (IR) spectroscopy can be employed for determinations of cotton fiber properties. Despite advances in IR-based fiber quality measurements, few reported methods easily capture the distribution in properties typically observed in cotton fiber bundles. In this study, an IR imaging system was used for the examination of cotton fiber bundles. IR imaging combines infrared spectral analysis with spatial resolution to create visual images that examine sample composition and distribution. The IR imaging systems used in this study relied on a macro sampling chamber and a focal plane array detector. Hundreds of spectra were simultaneously collected for each sample in a manner of minutes. IR images displayed changes in the cell wall development of cotton fiber bundles and were also used to estimate maturity distribution in the bundle samples. Additional uses of the IR imaging system for cotton product characterization will be discussed.<br/>
