The goal of this research work is to help and contribute in the minimization and control of manmade water pollution on land and marine environment. Only in United States, around 20,000 oil spills are reported annually and most of these reports are for minor accidents. Since oil spill is a major environmental polluter and causes server damage to natural habitats. Oil separation from aqueous phase using superhydrophobic with water repellent properties of polyolefin-bound magnetic nanoparticles has become a promising area of research that is worth exploring. Perfectly designed, polyisobutylene (PIB) functionalized bound iron magnetic nanoparticle utilized for facile separation of complex pollutants (crude oil), diesel, gasoline and organic solvents (petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform) from aqueous polluted environment conditions and followed by 80-90% of recovery of pollutants by external magnetic field and also recovered, reusability of PIB-bound magnetic nanoparticles investigated in detail. Improved reaction condition of terminally functionalized polyisobutylene-catechol grafting on iron magnetic nanoparticle obtained 42-52% by TGA analysis and stability of the PIB-catechol-bound magnetic nanoparticle confirmed by UV-Visible spectroscopy studies. Moreover, these experiments suggest that this work might provide promising candidate for environmental remediation including oil spill. This research work is an eco-friendly process and high oil absorption materials for industries in future and can have wide applications in heterogenous and homogenous catalysis.
