Cobalt activated C–H functionalization has received rigorous attention over the past decade as an Earth-abundant alternative to the use of precious, second and third-row metals in these reactions. In the past five years there has been an increased focus on aminoquinoline-directed C–H activation because of the prevalence of aminoquinoline in medicinally relevant complexes. While previous work has demonstrated the selective, ortho-directed C–C cross-coupling in the cobalt/aminoquinoline system, the mechanism of these transformations is not well understood. We sought to probe C–H activation of the aminoquinoline systems by exploring stoichiometric reactions of these complexes. In this poster we will discuss the synthesis of a novel Co(κ2-(2-methylbenzoyl)(quinolin-8-yl)amide)2, 1, and characterization of the complex by various spectroscopic techniques, including X-ray crystallography. The reactivity of 1, including both catalytic and stoichiometric reactions will also be discussed.
