Neuroblastoma is a rare, aggressive cancer that originates within the embryonic development of neural crest cells in children.  Neuroblastoma is rarely related to inheritance because it develops during the formation of tissues and cells in the maturation process of the embryo or fetus. MYCN is a gene involved in cell growth, division, and apoptosis.  It is responsible for translation into a protein specifically denoted towards assisting the formation of tissues and organs during embryonic development.  Molecular mechanics will be used to examine the MYCN structure and possible binding sites that affect tumor expression as a result of overproduction leading to tumor development.  These results will help to determine a potential replacement inhibitor to prevent binding of tumor-causing functions by inserting an inhibitor to bind to MYCN and develop a treatment for neuroblastoma to prevent relapse.  Determining a treatment that can treat the first expression of the tumor as well as successfully treating potential relapse is the overall goal of examining the binding sites of MYCN.  If successful, the knowledge gained here may be useful in treating other cancers that pertain to MYCN.
