The goal of this project is to conduct a 3-year national professional development program to promote the use of engaged student learning in the analytical chemistry classroom and laboratory. Each instructor will participate in a 2-year process involving a 3½-day national workshop, 1½-day regional workshop, and a site visit to the individual’s campus. An online community will be used to sustain engagement of participants after the series of workshops. A critical component of the project is the assessment of the effectiveness of these activities at promoting sustained change in the use of instructional pedagogies. Formative assessment of early national and regional workshops in the series are being used to refine and improve the strategies for later workshops and follow-up activities with participants. Preliminary analysis of outcomes has provided insights into workshop design to maximize impact.<br/>
