In this work highly stable zirconium based MOFs, were designed and synthesized where the nature of the organic linker has been carefully designed to interact with specific frequencies of light in the visible, infrared and far infrared. This study shows how the tailoring of organic linkers with specific properties can be incorporated into a MOF in order to produce tunable properties. Novel organic linkers were synthesized to demonstrate these effects when embedded in a crystalline MOFs. This tunability allows for specific applications where precise manipulation of the light interactions are required. The careful design of organic linkers provides a novel strategy that can give insight into the photophysical manipulation of MOF monomers and their projected properties inside the MOF.
