Decarboxylative coupling reactions have gained attention over the past decade as an efficient way to form C-C, C-N, C-O, C-S, and C-P bonds. The use of carboxylic acids as coupling partners could eliminate the need for prefunctionalized reagents and copper salts, as mediators, enable the decarboxylation of a broad scope of carboxylic acids. However, most reported transformations require harsh conditions (up to 210°C) for decarboxylation to occur. Here, we report new copper carboxylate complexes bearing an electron-rich tris(methimazolyl)borate ligand. These new copper carboxylate complexes could allow decarboxylation to occur at lower temperatures by stabilizing the copper aryl or copper alkyl intermediate. This talk will focus on the synthesis and characterization of the copper carboxylate complexes in addition to preliminary results.
