The Learning Assistant (LA) Program at Montgomery College (a two-year college) places experienced undergraduate students in the classroom to assist introductory STEM students. The experiences of a Learning Assistant in the chemistry department were documented over the course of a semester as the LA worked with students in both a general chemistry laboratory and discussion setting.  In this role, the LA aided students with problem solving, assisted them with laboratory techniques, and encouraged them to make connections between the lecture and laboratory material.  A personal bond formed between the LA and the students as the students became more comfortable asking the LA for assistance.  A one-on-one faculty/LA mentorship provided constant guidance and development for the LA throughout the semester.  The LA program opens up opportunities to students who are considering a career in the STEM field.  It has been very successful in providing an additional learning resource for students as well as providing a unique teaching experience for the Learning Assistants early in their academic journeys.<br/>
