Wastewater from rubber factory and locally sourced materials; moringa oliefera seeds and Jatropha carcus seeds were collected in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. The rubber processing effluent, collected by composite sampling method was characterized according to standard procedures. The results obtained from triplicate determinations of some of the parameters determined include Total Suspended Solid (TSS) 18.3mg/l; Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) 42.1mg/l; Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) 172.3mg/l and Turbidity found to be 9.5NTU, respectively. From the results, it showed that the effluent was polluted as the obtained values exceeded the regulatory discharge standard. Consequently some treatment process was needed. The Optimum doses of the moringa oliefera and Jatropha carcus seed powder for the treatment of the effluent were determined and found to be 3.00g/100ml sample at pH of 5.8 and 2.72g/100ml sample at same pH respectively. On the basis of this, the wastewater was treated and characterized in triplicates. Turkey-Kramer multiple comparism test was used to obtain the mean values and standard deviations from the triplicate determinations before and after treatment. The results obtained for the treated effluent showed significant reduction with p&lt;0.05 in the pollution load, with 78.8% reduction in TSS, 76.3% in BOD, 78.6% in COD and 75.8% in turbidity respectively when moringa oliefera seed powder was used and 76.8% reduction in TSS, 77.3% in BOD, 79.75% in COD and 77.4% in turbidity respectively for jatropha carcus seed powder. The results obtained compared favourably with the synthetic/conventional coagulants and these locally sourced coagulants had been reported to possess other advantages which include: pH independence, being locally available, they are cheap to source; they are biodegradable therefore, more environmental friendly, their use alongside the conventional coagulants is recommended. They could be possible alternatives as coagulants with time.
