Amphiphilic homopolymers (APHPs) have recently emerged as promising candidtes for macromolecular self-assembly and biomedical applications. In this project, four amphiphilic functionalized poly(delta valerolactone) were synthesized. Alllyl functionalized delta valerolactone monomer was synthesized first and was polymerized via anionic ring opening pollymerization. Oligo(ethylene glycol) side chains of different MW were attached to the polymer backbone via thiol-ene addition to impart hydrophilic property to the polymer. All four synthesized polymers exhibit thermo-responsive property with LCST ranging from 20-90 degree celsius. These homopolymers self-assembled into micelles in water with a size of ~120nm and exhibit spherical morphoogy under SEM. These APHPs will be tested for drug loading, stimuli responsive release properties for drug delivery applications.
