In landmark manuscripts, see below, Jack Halpern expressed the foundations and landscapes of mechanistic organometallic chemistry, most of which were derived from his original experimental designs. As applied to bioorganometallic chemistry (MeCo); to structure/function analysis in hydrogenation catalysis; and to heterolytic H<sub>2</sub> cleavage, these concepts are the basis for worksheets and students in organometallic chemistry; they also set the stage for the speaker’s efforts in biomimetics of hydrogenase active sites. Recent advances will be presented.
