Electride is a compound in which electrons serve as anions. The concept of electride was first proposed by J.Dye in 1983 along an organic electride based on crown-ethers.  We reported a first RT stable electride, C12A7:e in 2003 utilizing an inorganic nano-porous crystal 12CaO-7Al2O3 (C12A7). One of the unique properties of C12A7:e has both of a very low work function (2.4eV, comparable to metal potassium)and chemical and thermal stability. So far we reported Ru-loaded C12A7:e exhibits an excellent catalytic activity for NH3 synthesis at mild conditions and dissociation of N2 bond is no longer rate controlling step by a strong electron donating property of C12A7:e. <br/>Recently we extended a concept of electride to surface of inorganic hydrides and amides, and intermetallic compounds by extracting an essence of C12A7:e and found their effectiveness to catalysis of NH3 synthesis and selective hydrogenation. In this talk we review our recent works on electride materials for catalysis.<br/>
