The concentration of phosphate in water environment should be regulated because the excessive phosphate in water can easily cause the eutrophication with the ecological damage and promoting aging of the water environment. This problem has been regarded as the most widespread issue of global water quality problem due to its economic effect and potential risk to human health. For this reason, the regulation of phosphate is a primary issue for improving and protecting water quality. However, the conventional processes for the removal of phosphate, including adsorption, activated sludge, and precipitation, have a limitation of generating tremendous chemicals as a side product. Although electrochemical technologies, such as capacitive deionization (CDI) and electro dialysis (ED) have been emerged as a green water technology without generating chemicals, the lack of selectivity for phosphate has not been overcome yet. In this study, selective removal of phosphate was achieved in an electrochemical way by applying Zn-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) as a composite electrode with reduced graphene oxide (LDH/rGO). As a result, the LDH/rGO showed excellent selectivity for phosphate against with higher concentration of chloride at various concentration conditions. Additionally, the time scale of phosphate removal and a regeneration for LDH/rGO were much less than that of conventional adsorption/desorption processes. The selective performance of LDH/rGO was also maintained up to 5<sup>th</sup> cycle of capturing phosphate. Therefore, the electrochemical method with LDH/rGO exhibited a great potential of the green and rapid strategy for the electrochemical selective performance
