The Friedel-Crafts reaction of trifluorormethylaldimines is a relatively unexplored field. Here in we report superelectrophilic activation of (<i>S</i>)-<i>N</i>-tert-butylsulfinyl-3,3,3-trifluoroacetaldimine under the Friedel-Crafts reaction conditions. The reaction proceeds to give products in good yield and good diastereoselectivitiy. This methodology also provides a synthetic route to the access of novel trifluoromethyl-containing arenes which have high pharmaceutical value. A mechanism involving the formation of a superlectrophilic dication species is proposed.
