How researchers can use “Chemicals”, the chemical inventory system developed by Risk and Safety Solutions for the University of California, as a source of safety data and a repository for information on novel compounds. The Master Library, a compilation of individual chemical substance products into similar chemical families, contains hazard information as well as physical and chemical characteristics data. Together experimentalists can choose to use this tool to develop safe procedures and articles for publication. A historical example is reimagined to illustrate with the current effort to communicate safety information in publications.
