The discovery and development of new insecticides and nematicides is essential for the protection of the crops worldwide. Key elements of the discovery and development process include a robust strategy for the identification of new molecular starting points coupled with a carefully managed optimization process that identifies compounds with the most preferred combination of attributes of biological efficacy, and mammalian and environmental safety. An overview of these strategies from early lead identification through the optimization process will be presented.
