Chemical transformations which incorporate the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, are destined to become extremely important in the future. Among these processes are nonreductive, highly selective pathways for the production of useful polymeric materials from epoxides and CO2. The hydrophobic nature and lack of functionalities of the commonly studied CO2-based polycarbonates have prevented their use in functional materials. Herein, we wish to report upon the one-pot synthesis of CO2-based amphiphilic block polycarbonates with different functionalities.
