We present the synthesis of different series of metalloconjugated polymers based on thiophene or flourene units on the mainchain. These polymers are functionalized with transition metal complexes at the side chain or main chain. These complexes may function as either photosensitizers or triplet exciton sensitizers. The polymer can disperse single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), forming stable polymer-CNT hybrid materials. Ultrafast time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy was applied to study the dynamics of the formation and decay or the transient species after photoexcitation. Photoinduced electron transfer processes between the polymers and CNTs were observed, which were evidenced by the changes in the rate of formation/decay of the transient species, and the changes in the transient absorption spectra. Molecular dynamics simulation also confirmed the strong interaction between the conjugated mainchains and the surface of CNTs. Understanding the fundamentals of these charge transfer processes is crucial to the design of efficient CNT-based light harvesting systems.
