The intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of different sizes of gold nanozymes (AuNPs) is studied systematically. Surface-adsorption of single stranded DNA (ssDNA) is observed to enhance the enzymatic activity of AuNPs. Moreover, this amplification is dependent on the ssDNA nucleobase composition and can be fine-tuned by inserting variations in the sequence. The findings are not only intriguing from fundamental standpoint but also instrumental in colorimetric bioanalyses. We have studied DNA sequence analyses using the differences in the enhanced enzymatic activities of AuNPs. A statistical analysis method enabled us to discriminate different sequences of ssDNAs using peroxidase activity of AuNPs. Furthermore, the nanozyme-ssDNA assemblies were tested for the detection of other biomolecules.
