Heterogeneous catalysis and surface-mediated reactions can impact atmospheric chemistry and air quality. The chemistry of indoor and outdoor environments is influenced by the presence of surfaces in ways that are often poorly.  This talk will focus on the role that surfaces and adsorbed water play in indoor and outdoor chemistry.  Special emphasis will be placed on reactions that occur on oxide surfaces as a function of relative humidity.<br/>
