Valerie Kuck has a long career in ACS governance. She’s made so many contributions to all parts of the American Chemical Society. One of the most important contributions Valerie made were during her tenure on the ACS Board of Directors when she chaired the ACS Board Standing Committee on Grants and Awards. Valerie worked tirelessly for gender and racial equality in all aspects of the ACS, but especially in the national awards program. She insisted on transparency in everything she did. She represented ACS on many external committees, where she was a role model for other scientific societies. In this presentation, the authors will outline some of her major contributions. While the work for gender and racial equality is not over, Valerie laid the groundwork for what has been accomplished and what lies ahead.
