Stormwater runoff can transport pesticides from managed turfgrass to surrounding surface waters, raising concern for non-target organisms.  Environmental stewardship includes looking for new approaches to reduce adverse environmental impacts of current practices.  One strategy is to replace traditional turfgrass with low-maintenance turfgrass.  Fescue grasses have been shown to provide characteristics desirable for golf course fairways. However, it is unknown what influence this change will have on the off-site transport of pesticides with storm runoff.  Therefore studies comparing runoff from plots planted in creeping bentgrass or a fine fescue mixture were conducted.  Shoot density, thatch depth and soil moisture were the most important factors related to runoff volume.  Concentrations of pesticides and the overall mass of pesticides transported off-site with runoff from the different turfgrasses will be discussed. Results of this research contribute to the understanding of pesticide transport with runoff and provide golf course superintendants with information for management decisions.  <br/>
