Anthropogenic environmental pollutants have caused severe concerns about toxicology to the public health and to the biosphere, for example, diesel leakage from the ships. Bioremediation is one of the promising solutions to this issue however, for efficient removal of the pollutant bioremediation requires several factors to be optimized such as oxygen level in the water, especially for diesel degradation. To facilitate the rate of diesel removal by microbes, we synthesized CaO2 nanoparticles by using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as holdfast in the solution and implemented with Takuchi method. The average synthesized nanoparticle size was around 190 nm and showed the characteristic peaks of calcium peroxide by X-ray diffraction. Transmission electron microscopic examination suggested particle size was less 100 nm. The results of Raman spectroscopy also showed the characteristic peaks of O-O function group. The dissolved oxygen (DO) was raised to 10 mg/ L by adding CMC-CaO2 into basic medium and can maintain up to 4 mg/ L for 2 days. The pH value was 9.36 for CMC-CaO2 treatment. CMC-CaO2 can help microbes to degrade diesel from initial 200 ppm to 101 ppm compared to control from 200 ppm to 131 ppm. Our results enhanced the diesel degradation efficiency by microbes with CaO2 nanoparticles, future study should focus on combination of microcosm selection and CaO2 nanoparticle treatment for better pollutant degradation efficiency.
