C60, SWCNTs, MWCNTs, and graphite were functionalized by the aziridination reagent PhI=NTs with Cu(I) scorpionate complexes as the catalysts. Good yields were obtained on C60 and high functional group densities were achieved on CNTs and graphite. Utilizing different iminophenyliodinane reagents provided access to a wider range of products and provided opportunities for further modification on the functionalized CNTs. These modified CNTs can be exploited as sensory materials in electronic devices for the detection of harmful chemicals in the environment.
