Rechargeable lithium-air battery shows superiority in ultrahigh energy density and power density compared with conventional lithium-ion battery. However, one of the obstacles for practical applications is the large overpotentials caused by sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics in the cathode, which is closely related to the catalytic effect of the catalyst. In this work, we discuss recent results of an investigation of the factors affecting Pd based catalyst performance in the cathode. Pd based nanoalloys with controllable size and composition are characterized. Activated graphene with highly conductive and porous structures is used as catalyst support. The synergistic catalytic effect on the battery performance will also be discussed.
