Environmental protection is one of the major criteria in modern chemical synthesis. As a continuation of our ongoing research to synthesize pharmacologically relevant heterocyclic moieties; an expeditious, green, and scalable methodology to synthesize 5-methyl-thiazolidin-4-ones has been developed. No catalyst/solvent/promoter/additive/support has been used to achieve the target compound in excellent yield. An equimolar mixture of amine, aldehyde, and 2-mercaptopropanoic acid were irradiated under controlled microwave exposure to accomplish the reaction. No extraction was needed for the reaction. Easy reaction procedure, shorter reaction period, high yield of the product and retention of atom-economy are important aspects of this green synthetic method.  <br/>
