Herein, a detailed kinetic analysis of Ti redox catalytic reactions will be presented. In particular, the combined experimental and computational mechanistic picture of Ti-catalyzed oxidative nitrene transfer and related reactions that proceed through a unique Ti<sup>II</sup>/Ti<sup>IV</sup> redox cycle will be discussed in detail. Additionally, the value of mechanistic studies will be discussed in the context of new reaction development, as well as the author's personal inspiration from the work of the late Jack Halpern.
