The demand for reliable, field deployable and cost-effective devices that can provide rapid on-site assessment of the environment, water, air or food chain continues to grow. This presentation will discuss development, large scale manufacturing, analytical characterization and deployment of recently developed portable reagentless sensors for detection of emerging environmental contaminants. Selection of sensing materials for selective capture and detection of environmental targets as well as strategies for large scale roll-to-roll manufacturing using a low cost, versatile and controllable process will be discussed. The sensors have been interfaced with portable databases and user-friendly signal transduction methods, and have demonstrated excellent analytical performance when used in the field. The integrated platform enabled rapid one-step analysis in the absence of exogenous reagents and can work as a stand-alone detection system. Examples of several types of portable sensors for measuring endocrine disrupting chemicals and several representative examples of contaminants in food, water and air will be provided.  The results demonstrate the feasibility of low cost sensing devices as reliable detection tools for field based assessment of environmental exposure in a variety of samples. Advantages include on-site measurements, ease of use, real-time detection and reagentless operation with all in one sampling, extraction and analysis. The system could be adapted to other chemicals such as volatile organic compounds, phthalates and pesticides, and in addition to measurements in water and environmental samples, it can be used in homes, schools and the work environment.<br/>
