Femtosecond time-resolved laser spectroscopy provides an excellent array of experimental tools to perform fundamental studies regarding the electronic and vibrational dynamics of nanomaterials. Indeed, the pioneering spectroscopic work during the past three decades can be credited for the revelation of the underlying physics of nanoscience. More broadly, spectroscopy enabled the discovery and characterization of many new nanomaterials. We have performed femtosecond laser spectroscopy for both fundamental studies as well as to answer application-driven questions. This talk will cover an overview of our spectroscopic work on quantum dots, nanorods, and nanotubes, as well as on semiconductor thin films. <br/>Femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopy was performed to study the broadband excitation of singlet oxygen sensitizers in quantum dots. Such studies have been useful in pinpointing the distance and orientation dependences between the quantum dots and attached molecular chromophores. The photoinduced electron transfer from sensitizer molecules to nanorods and nanotubes of titania were studied to improve the photovoltaic electron injection process. On Semiconductor thin films we could show that the film morphology and composition of metal halide perovskites strongly affects the electronic relaxation and transport properties. <br/>Much insight into the properties of nanomaterials can be gained from these time-resolved experiments. I will introduce and discuss the experiments and their outcomes within their respective research context.
