Hydrogenation is one of the most important reactions in the chemical industry. However, there are many risks associated with the use of hydrogen cylinders in a laboratory. These include: 1. Impact from the blast of a gas cylinder explosion or rapid release of compressed gas; 2. Impact from parts of gas cylinders or valves that fail, or any flying debris; 3. Contact with the released gas or fluid (such as chlorine); 4. Fire resulting from the escape of flammable gases or fluids (such as liquefied petroleum gas); 5. Impact from falling cylinders; 6. Manual handling injuries; There are hydrogen generators already available on the market, but they are not an ideal substitute because they are low pressure and specifically designed for supplying analytical equipment rather than facilitating chemistry. We have designed a high pressure gas generator specifically to act as a substitute for hydrogen cylinders in the chemistry laboratory. This poster will describe the system and the advantages over other standard generators using different chemist use cases.
