In this presentation, we discuss about an application of nanoscale scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) to image single biological nanopores. Specifically, we image single nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) that perforate the nuclear envelope (NE), which is isolated from a biological cell and spread over a solid substrate. Individual NPCs with inner and outer diameters of ~50 nm and ~120 nm, respectively, are resolved by SECM imaging using a 30 nm-diameter tip. Quantitative information about single NPC permeability is obtained directly by nanoscale SECM in contrast to being estimated theoretically from the permeability of the NE examined by microscale SECM.
