Studies have established the concern of exposure of toxic gases such as sulfur dioxide, to the environment. Thus, this study aims to utilize the abundant amounts of sulfur extracted as a by-product from oil and gas industries to advance conventional solutions and alter the usage of the industrial by-product. In this work, new elemental sulfur based co-polymer materials were prepared bearing cyclic monomers as cross-linkers. The sulfur copolymers were prepared by reacting cyclic monomer possessing different ring sizes (seven or eight membered ring) as well as varying alkene bonds in the ring (aliphatic monomers with -ene or -diene groups). The effect of ring size and the cross linking density on the structure and thermal properties of the copolymer was estimated using DSC and TGA. The thermal properties increased with increasing in ring size and with the increase of crosslinking density. The completion of the reaction was confirmed by the proton <sup>1</sup>H NMR and FTIR technique. The XRD results revealed the conversion of crystalline sulfur into amorphous co-polymer. The amorphous nature of sulfur copolymer significantly decreased the thermal conductivity of the copolymer. The producing outcome portrayed its significance as an efficient insulator via LFA studies as shown in Figure. The sulfur copolymer can also be used as high performance cathode material in lithium sulfur battery.
