Hydroxyapatite (HAP, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is an important inorganic polymer that has been developed for bone tissue engineering due to its biocompatibility but which is also used as an adsorbent for metal ions and dyes in water. This presentation will focus on its use as an adsorbent and summarize progress in HAPs that have had a portion of their calcium ions substituted with other metal ions. Our latest results with metal – modified HAPs will be described.
