Different morphologies and crystal phases of titanium dioxide (TiO2) including hydrogenated anatase TiO2 and large spheres with rutile shell and expanded core as a yolk/shell structures were synthesized using ecofriendly Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquid (PLAL). The synthesized structures demonstrated outstanding photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. Using different techniques and analysis such as XRD, XPS, HRTEM, SAED and FFT, formation of crystalline-disordered core–shell structure, gradual increase in the thickness of H-doped amorphous shell in the PLAL synthesized black TiO2, phase transitions from anatase to rutile and most importantly size-dependent lattice expansion from 0.35 nm to 0.94 nm of TiO2 particles were shown. In addition, particle size growth and formation of two types of core-shell structures which consist of anatase-amorphous and expanded lattice plane-rutile for PLAL treated nanoparticles were observed and maximum size growth rates were achieved for the particles that laser ablated for 120 minutes. Crystal phase transition was led to the formation of heterostructure catalysts through formation of hydrogenated anatase titania and rutile encapsulating expanded core of large TiO2 spheres junctions. The maximum degradation of approximately 99% at the pH=10 was achieved for Methylene Blue (MB) at the visible light wavelength of 410-590 nm.
