Academic libraries are constantly adapting their services and programs in alignment with the evolving ways that researchers access, process, and disseminate information. In order to provide robust and effective research and information services, chemistry librarians must constantly reimagine how we brand ourselves and our libraries to better connect with the researchers that we serve. Chemistry researchers often face a similar dilemma, in that they need to constantly rebrand how they communicate the importance of their work to a wider audience. My experience as a PhD chemist and as a chemistry graduate assistant provides a unique perspective on not only the services that librarians provide but also the research and information needs of chemistry researchers. My story provides an opportunistic marketing and outreach tool when connecting and collaborating with researchers in chemistry as well as other scientific disciplines. It also helps develop rapport with researchers and build deep connections between the researcher and the library. In this talk, I will use my background story as a springboard into a discussion of how chemistry librarians of the future will need to reimagine their image in order to better serve the research and information needs of students and faculty. This presentation will include personal branding strategies and methods for making immediate connections with chemistry students and faculty. An overview and discussion of new outreach and marketing strategies for science librarians will also be included.
