Artocarpus altilis (Moraceae) is native to the South Pacific but was introduced into the Caribbean and Americas in the late 1800’s. The inflorescence of Artocarpus altilis is burnt as a mosquito repellent and consumed as a candied confectionary in some South Pacific and Caribbean nations. We herein describe the hydrodistillation and soxlet extraction of the flowers of a Jamaican collection of Artocarpus altilis. A range of esters, fatty acids, and triterpenes were identified from the inflourescence. Methyl palmitate, n-hexadecanoic acid and lupenol acetate were some of the major components detected by GC-MS. The isolation and GC-MS analysis of the essential oils of the flowers as well as the hexane soluble soxhlet extract are discussed.
