The negative impact of provides a strong impetus to discover new catalysts that are able to reduce CO2. Our goals are to design and characterize new catalysts that have high efficiency for the catalytic reduction of CO2. In this talk, our exploration of the ligand frameworks with a wide variety of heteroatom binding sites will be presented. For instance, a variety of transition metal complexes supported by pyridine-centered “PNP” (e.g. 2,6-{Ph2PNR}2NC5H3) and “PN” (e.g. 2,6-{Ph2PNR}NC5H3) ligand scaffolds will be presented. In addition to their characterization, the ability of these complexes for electro and photo-catalytic reduction of CO2 will be discussed.
