We have successfully incorporated mechanochemically responsive build materials into a series of 3D printed objects. The objects have complex geometries that offer challenges to empirical assessment of stress and strain upon mechanical loading. The mechanophores were found to be activated upon unixial compession, extension, and solvent-based swelling of the objects. Quantification of mechanophore activation provided a means for assessing the local and global strains as a functiona of object geometry.
